Pigeons are a common sight in Melbourne and surrounding suburbs. They are known to cause problems such as noise pollution, property damage, and health hazards due to their droppings.

Their population increased significantly over the years due to the availability of food and water sources, especially in Melbourne's Northern and Western outer suburbs.

Pigeon's roosting / nesting underneath solar panels can cause serious damage to the panels. The birds droppin can clog gutters and create an environment for plants to grow. The mess from the birds can make the panels less efficient. Pigeons are known carries of disease and lice along with their droppings which contain more than 60 pathogens and diseases such as E.Coli and Salmonella all of which pose serious health risks to humans. As the droppings dry the dust blows in though open windows or onto unsuspecting people below.

It is important to take action to prevent damage and disease if you have pigeons roosting or nesting under your solar panels, without killing/culling, poisoning, or hurting the bird in any way. There are a few different ways that you can prevent pigeons from nesting under your solar panels such as using specially designed clips and PVC coated UV resistant stainless steel welded mesh with large enough openings to prevent the panels from overheating.
